After selling your relinquished property, you have a strict timeline to follow: you must identify potential replacement properties within 45 calendar days (known as the "Identification Period") and complete the purchase of the replacement properties within 180 calendar days of the sale (the "Exchange Period"). Alternatively, the closing must occur by the due date (including extensions) for your tax return for the year in which the relinquished property was sold, whichever comes first.
